I was born in New York City many moons ago and raised in Astoria, Queens. My mom was a pianist and piano teacher and music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I think I started taking piano lessons when I was about 4. Having your mom as your piano teacher is not easy and I was definitely not a cooperative student. I would much rather be playing ball than practicing scales. Then, when I was 7, I was part a recital. I played a piece by Chopin, but did not play it as Chopin wrote it. Someone asked why, my answer was “I made it better”. I was already creating new music at such a young age.
I think I wrote my first rock song when I was 15, shorty after I picked up guitar (unfortunately I gave up playing piano when I was about 8). Yes, my first song was about a girl and the name of the song was ‘Blonde’. Amazing what one can do with three chords. I’ve been writing ever since. In bands through high school and college and well into my twenties. But the stage was never my love. Writing and recording music was and is. Give me a studio session to a live performance any day.
In my mid thirties I finally gave up music for a real job and career. Fast forward twenty years and an early retirement and I was back to music. Just for fun this time. I built a studio in my home here in New Milford CT, and started writing and recording again.
I got started with KBJB as an interview for the Original Artist Spotlight, then hosted by ‘The Robes’. Lucky for me The Robes schedule was really hectic and I guess I was a talkative guest. Not long after the station asked if I would take over the Original Artist Spotlight. I said yes and the rest is history. I now fit my radio show into my busy schedule of writing music, producing and engineering, gardening and play golf. It’s a tough life.

In March 2017, Joanna received an honorarium from Eastern Connecticut State University and was asked to be a guest lecturer for a credited liberal arts college course on the topic of women in comedy.
Joanna enjoys writing, struggling to crochet, and long walks within a reasonable distance of a beach.
